What is this Dangerous Ink Gallery malarkey?
Well, we’re an off-shoot of the hugely popular Dangerous Ink magazine. Pretty much all of the artists here have appeared in the pages of DI magazine, and the readers liked them so much that we decided to start an affordable art gallery to promote these artists further.
We think that lowbrow, or pop surrealism as some folk call it, is a fantastic new movement for artists, but like all art movements, buying original lowbrow / pop surrealist art can be just as expensive as any other art. That's why we're doing what we do; bringing lowbrow art into the affordable art category.
Affordable art? What the deuce?
Well, basically it lets collectors get their hands on great artwork for a very reasonable price, while giving the artists another avenue for income to keep them away from the dreaded pizza delivery or cable installation job (sorry to any pizza deliverers or cable installers). Instead of us selling 1 print at £750 each, we’d rather sell 500 prints at £15, so discerning collectors like yourselves can furnish your bare walls with great affordable art that won’t cripple your bank account.
I’m buying more than one print. Can I combine postage and packaging?
No, sorry. Sometimes we ship the prints ourselves, and sometimes they ship from the artists themselves, so shipping and packing costs vary, and this way makes it fairer to you guys.
How are your prints made?
In various ways: mostly we present the work in the form of an 8 ink Giclée print on 100% cotton, 308gsm photo rag paper, which compliments most of our prints. Other Giclée prints are done on William Turner 310gsm 100% rag if the works suits it. Other ways our prints are produced are block prints from wood and lino, and screen prints.
How do artists benefit from this?
We split the profits 50/50 with our artists, minus our production costs.

Sounds great. Can I submit work?
Sure, but not through us. To keep it all fair and sportsman-like, all submissions have to go through the illustration and lowbrow arts magazine, Dangerous Ink. If you can get in there, you run a better chance at getting in here.
Can I buy über amounts to sell in my store?
While it’s great that you’d want so many prints, we have to limit how many each person can buy to keep things fair for anyone else wanting to buy a print. And this way, you don't pay an excessive amount for a print by going through a 3rd party.
Do you own the copyright of these prints?
Nope; that stays with the artists. As a bunch of ex-illustrators and creative’s ourselves, we know only too well the horrible feeling of being ripped off, which is why we collaborate with the artists instead.
If you wanted to use the artwork in any way, shape, or form, you’d need the artists prior permission, and not ours.
Can I return a print if I decide I don't like it?
Sorry, but we have a strict no returns policy. This is to ensure that each print that someone receives is in tip-top condition and not a returned item, so please be certain before you hit that ‘buy’ button.
I don't get all this A5 and A4 stuff. What's that in inches and millimetres?
No problemo:
A3 is 11.7" × 16.5" (297 x 420mm)
A4 is 8.3" × 11.7" (210 x 297mm)
A5 is
5.8" × 8.3" (148 × 210mm)
I plan on framing mine. Is there a white border around the edge?
Absolutely. Every piece has a 1/2" (12.75mm) border around the physical artwork to take it up to the sizes listed above.
I love it! But I'd like it framed. Do you do that?
No, sorry. But we can highlyrecommend The Merchant Gate Gallery in Glasgow.
The quality of framing is top notch, and their prices are hard to beat.
If you choose to go with them, we'll forward on your P&P costs to them, so you're not paying extra. |
